According to the strategic goal of building a new-type high-end think tank with Chinese characteristics having a domestic authority and international influence, CIECC held its Party Leadership Group meeting to make a decision to establish CIECC Academy of Strategic Studies on June 8, 2016. CIECC Academy of Strategic Studies is a non-profit research organization aiming at serving the Party and the country’s scientific and democratic decision-making. By relying on CIECC’s comprehensive multi-industry strength and long-term underpinning for major projects and planning and consulting research, the Academy has independently conducted fundamental, forward-looking, and strategic consulting research on major issues in the country's socio-economic development and national defense, in a bid to strengthen CIECC’s policy-based influence, social influence, and academic influence as a high-end think tank.

Mr. Gou Husheng, President  has served as the president and chief expert of CIECC Academy of Strategic Studies. CIECC Academy of Strategic Studies has 12 internal institutions including Office, the Research Center of Strategic Issues, the Strategic Institute of Rural Economy and Regional Development, the Strategy Institute of Energy Development, the Strategy Institute of Integrated Transportation, the Strategy Institute of Metallurgical & Building Materials, the Strategy Institute of Petrochemical Industry, the Strategy Institute of Public Services, the Strategy Institute of High-Tech Industry Development, the Strategy Institute of Resources and Environment, the Strategy Institute of Defense, and the Institute of International Strategy.
